Teaching 3rd Cycle/PhD in Public Health 2012-1013 The PhD Programme in Public Health aims to prepare individuals for research in specific Public Health areas, providing students with skills in design, methods and dissemination of health research. Also, graduates are expected to be able to apply these skills in different contexts, namely in the study of etiological factors, the analysis and management of problems of national and international health and in the planning and evaluation of health interventions. The programme is aimed at graduates or masters in medicine and other areas of health sciences, social sciences and mathematics and comprises a team of highly qualified faculty as well as other administrative research resources, and facilities, including those available at the Institute of Public Health, that contribute to the quality of the program. During the first year, the students have a set of core modules and a set of elective modules that also include seminars and participation in journal clubs. The students also have the opportunity to attend modules in international reference institutions. The Programme has the collaboration of several international partners and has close relations with European networks for research and training in Public Health, namely as a member of ASPHER (The Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region).
